Meet Arran Barton: Chief Engineer and Resident Chef

Jan 18, 2021

For most of our customers, Oracle Vision is the engineers who come out to see them – to help when they need it most. Luckily for us, they’re in great hands, with Arran Barton, our Project Engineer, at the helm. Learn more about the man himself as we catch up and ask some quick questions.

When did you join Oracle Vision?

It was five years ago. I’d switched to a contracts manager role for my previous company and I really wanted to get back on the tools. When the opportunity came up at Oracle, I jumped at the chance.

What do you do here?

I started as an Engineer, and now I’ve reached the dizzy heights of Project Engineer. Having come from a background in intruder and fire alarms, I brought a lot of knowledge with me to Oracle Vision in those areas. I’ve trained up others and now I manage all the fire alarm work. It’s also my job to make sure we get all our rubber stamps – we recently received our renewed SSAIB certification, which is a good job, as a lot of work went into the submission!

What do you love about working here?

The atmosphere – it’s just so friendly. Chris and Tim are brilliant to work for, and they’re very family oriented, which is great for me, having a two year old and a seven year old. The fact that it’s growing is also really promising. It’s grown twice in size since I started. That’s a big advantage, from the point of view of my career.

What do you love doing when you’re not here?

Sleeping, because my kids keep me awake all night! I have a motorbike, and I like going out on that. It’s just an old school vintage style bobber. At the weekends, we tend to take the kids out for long walks. There’s not a lot going on at the moment, what with having the little one. I’m also really into my cooking.

If you could spend the day with anyone famous, living or dead, who would it be and what would you do?

I’d spend it with Gordon Ramsey. We’d do loads of cooking and I’d find out all of his secrets.
